Driving license approval
The change of license consists of the homologation of the driving license you have, exchanging the one you had for the equivalent spanish license, being a much simpler procedure to carry out than obtaining a new license. In addition to the licenses issued by the DGT (General Direction of Traffic) itself, there are other licenses with which you can drive in our country. These licenses allow you to circulate under a series of conditions and a certain time. Therefore, if you are a resident of Spain, we advise you to exchange your license for a spanish license and drive with complete freedom. Foreign driving licenses obtained after the signing of the respective agreement are not exchangeable, when the holder had obtained the license while already being a legal resident in Spain.

Change of foreign driving licenses
If you are a resident of Spain and have a driving license issued in your country of origin, you can exchange it for an equivalent spanish one, always handing over the original, when there is an agreement with your country of origin, and meet a series of administrative requirements. Remember: Foreign driving licenses obtained after signing the respective agreement are not exchangeable, when the holder had obtained the license while already being a legal resident in Spain. If your license is not from the European Union, European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and does not appear in the list of countries with an agreement, your license cannot be exchanged. You will have to obtain a new license.
